On The Road Again

On Thursday, we embark on a road trip to the ultrahip, artsy, remote desert town of Marfa, Texas. While ten hours in a car may not seem like the best way to spend a long weekend, I can see the lights at the end of the tunnel. I already have a mile-long list of things to see and do, and I'll be sure to bring back lots of pictures!


We are staying at The Thunderbird Hotel, a twenty-four room modernized '50s motor inn hotel. Between the unhurried West Texas atmosphere, sitting around the outdoor fire pit gazing at the night's stars, partaking in an occasional movie screening, and nibbling on the Lounge's international menu of seasonal sake cocktails, micheladas, plum wine, aperitifs, and rotating beer selections, I plan to have a darn good time.

I'm a sucker for a good gift shop and this one packs a punch. In addition to the infinite local goods, they also sell woven Peruvian Frasada blankets, Red Flower candles, Malin + Goetz products, coffee from Big Bend Coffee Roasters, Veuve Clicquot champagne, Lomo cameras, and cowhide rugs, among other things like postcards and magnets.
