Screen on the Green

Last Saturday we hosted our first Screen on the Green outdoor movie night. We couldn't have asked for better weather - or better company! 25 of our nearest and dearest showed up, blankets and lawn chairs in tow. We ate our weight in popcorn and concession candies, drank plenty of Boyle sodas and Steve McQueen's, and sprawled across the lawn to watch our feature presentation on the big screen.

I flipped and flopped between Harold and Maude [how can you go wrong with a Cat Stevens soundtrack] and Charade, but in the end, Charade was a clear winner. Murder mystery, 1960s humor, and Audrey + Cary equalled a perfect showing. We hope to make this a regular occurrence!

And, of course, Burks was a great sport helping us set up...

1) I hate that we missed this fab' party.
2) Your outdoor movie screen blows ours out of the water (I've sent Chance a link so we can step it up)
3) I can't wait to hug on Burkster
4) That popcorn machine shot & the chandelier made me smile
5) It has been decided: you have totally missed your calling - I am still wondering why you are in the medical whatever (marketing?) business!!!!
peace,

What a fantastic idea! I wish I could go/was invited/knew you/lived in Texas/didn't spend my night watching America's Next Top Model and binging on Cadbury Cream Eggs.

Thank you for all the really kind - and positive - responses. I had no idea I would get this reaction from a little post about our movie night. I've been smiling all day!!

Rachel: The Gerolsteiner in a glass bottle came from World Market. It's the party mecca!

Erika: Burks can't wait for you to hug on her, either. And I don't know what my calling is...I think that's the problem. But if it involves entertaining and drinking, I usually pull out all stops!

Petunia Face: You let me know when you come to Houston & we'll throw a party. Pinkie promise.

Girl Con Queso: I've never had anything sk*rted - how exciting is this?!! Burkly and I did a little happy dance when reading your comment.

Love it! Found it on Sk*rt and had to check it out! Love it! First thing I will do in my new backyard! Well, second. We have to mow.

Seriously, this is so brilliant and cute. If Seattle was warmer than 38 degrees on any day before July 5, I would totally have an outdoor movie party.

I want to smooch Burkly.

Wow!! you did such a great job! i love the popcorn machine, the outdoor curtains and lights, and most of all your dog is sooo cute!

What a cute, cute idea! Did you rent the screen and the popcorn popper or do you actually own such items? I may have to steal this idea, although I'm not sure anything like this could be hosted in my back yard. It's about the size of the screen itself.

omg, this looks SO amazing! you had all the little touches. wow, everyone must have had an amazing time. i want to rent charade now :)

Tonia: If I owned a popcorn machine that size, my husband would truly question my purchases. We rented it from a party rental shop - it was a pretty easy process. They deliver and pick up!

The projector we borrowed from J's old boss. He was really kind to let us use it! I own 2 projector screens [seen behind the bar and candy table]. My 6' screen would work just fine, but for only $25 I could rent a massive 8' one [also shown in the pics]...I decided to upgrade since it was so cheap :)

Great job putting this party together. I love the rustic table with drinks and that curtain!

This has to be the cutest idea for a party ever! I LOVE this! ONly you!!!! I wish I could do this too, but no grass in our pitiful back yard - all stone. And no friends either - a very important quotient.

I'm so jealous! We rented that popcorn machine for our daughter's bat mitzvah party.

I'd love to know where you found that fabric, with the trees. I love it!

Aileen: The fabric is from IKEA! I posted about stumbling upon it here.

What a fun, fun idea! I would love to do something like this! Where did you get the movie to play on the projector...can that be rented, too?

Courtney said...

No. 35: The movie is a standard DVD which we put in my laptop. We hooked the outdoor speakers up to my laptop and....voila! Instant movie party!
