Creepy Crawlers

When moving into this house last April, we immediately planted a Rangoon Creeper [Quisqualis indica] along one side of our fence. It's an invasive evergreen vine that covers a lot of space, which I love! Throughout the course of the day, the clusters of long tubed flowers release a sweet fragrance and change from white to pink to a bright, deep red. Hyper-colored flowers, if you will. If this creepy crawler can thrive with my benign neglect, anyone can grow this!

Over the long weekend, we finally got a chance to completely redo our front flower beds. Before they were lifeless and filled with half-dead Azalea bushes. While we still have a long way to go, we're off to a good start and I'm anxious for our little plants [especially the larger ones] to grow!

The backyard has also come a long way. We no longer have ivy growing through the windows and into the house, and we now have grass instead of ground cover. Hooray for Spring and greener pastures!

wow. That is quite a change- looks like a lot of love went into that. I would be on that patio every evening with a Pimms! Want to do my yard ? :)

Krissy: It has taken us forever to get to the point of being able to post pictures :) I'm not kidding when I said ivy was growing INside the house! It was insane. We had to cut everything back, which killed all the ivy - and then wait for it to regrow and fill back in. Long, long process and I'm so glad to finally see GREEN!

Oh the flower beds still have tons more work, but luckily for us at this point, all we can do is sit back, drink Pimms and wait for them to grow!

Love the yard, the house and the blog. I was just directed toward it and I've added it to my favorites. I'll definitely be checking it out often!

Great job! I too love the color of your house.

BUT...

why use that yucky red-colored mulch in your beds? Use cypress, or cedar. Or use cotton boll compost or pine needles. Much more attractive and not "dyed to leach" into the groundwater!

Totally terrific transformation! You may want to take the ivy off that tree. It can strangle it. We had the same here and it is a big job but will help your tree to live. Great job!

Thanks for the compliments on the house color - it's "Satchel," which is a Martha Stewart for Sherwin-Williams color. It's no longer available for swatches, but they still have the formula in their system.

Sucker for Marketing: Thanks for the input! We're still totally learning about what to do and not do in our yard. Landscaping is definitely not a natural talent of mine, so the more information the better. Thanks!

Patricia: That has been the biggest annoyance! We've clipped that ivy and pulled it off and it keeps coming back on that one tree. When we had our trees trimmed, they told us as long as we can keep it cut back to the base of the trunk, it will be alright. Is this true? I certainly don't want to kill my trees!!
