On a Soap Box
My parents are embarking on not one, but two bathroom remodels. In order to get my Mom amped for the messy renovations to come, I surprised her with this vintage French soap hook. These chrome hooks are made by Pro Ven Di and were originally designed for French public school washrooms. The vegetable based soap screws on to the rod and spins as you use it. And while it's an ingenious way to dispense soap, I had no idea they would be so large and substantial in person. I'm now looking to mount one of these industrial beauties in my own home!

Ok, I love these, but how hard are the refills to get and do they drip soap all over the place?
Kate: The link on the word "soap" takes you to a site that ships to the US. Because the dollar is weak and the shipping is high, it makes these beauties a little pricey. However, Apartment Therapy's store is supposedly stocking the refills soon. And to make you feel a little better, the bars of soap are really, really big!!
As for the drippy soap, not sure yet. I asked Mom to let me know of that right away. But if these have been used in public spaces all over France for a long time now, I can't imagine that the design would be faulty. I'll keep you posted though!
My last OCD question about these is what does the soap smell like?
Also, love your blog and I am SO jealous of the fact you worked with Ralph Rucci. OMG. Must have been amazing.I wish you would come to New York with me and go shopping!
Hi Kate! You can ask as many OCD questions as you'd like. I understand the need for answers! So the soap, holy smokes it smells heavenly! In fact, that was the first comment Mom made when she opened the box! She got the olive soap and it's super light and really really fresh. It's a really nice bar of French soap, nothing overpowering or too fru fru.
Thanks for the sweet comments about my blog! Working for Ralph was definitely one of the highlights of my life. And can I say, the man was a dream to work for! He was so nice and sophisticated, and really kind to his employees - which is unheard of in the fashion industry. And to watch him at work - and to watch his seamstresses! You could flip the clothes inside out and wear them & no one would be the wiser. Impeccable! And you name the time, I'm always in for a NY trip!!
Thanks for the answer! I'm getting one for our kitchen. I love it! Thanks!
Great idea - nice little touch!
what a sweet hook! and what a sweet blog too! I'll be back (and of course, it had to be good, since you have such a great name) ;-)
