In a few years, J and I plan to expand our tiny bungalow and we often discuss our overall vision. I salivate over glass tiles and honed counters as much as the next design-obsessed junkie, but my personal taste is more primitive and raw. We like to pick and choose our areas of luxury [nice appliances since we actually cook] while keeping everything else more exposed, industrial and earthy. A balance of both worlds.

As a disclaimer, yes, I do love well-made shoes, $2,000 footstools and daydreaming of no holds barred shopping trips, but in reality nothing makes me happier than the simple things in life. Weekends filled with low key dinner parties or boat rides in the bayou. Fresh flowers, nice weather, and an untested cocktail recipe. A new crop of veggies at the market and taking my bicycle out for a spin.
What's your idea of the ultimate perfection?

"You need the refined details to appreciate the rough rawness of certain materials, and vice versa. That contrast is what's key"-- a quote from a friend of mine in the midst our discussion on masculine vs. feminine spaces.
But I'm so excited to hear (even if its years away) of JJs and your plans --- ML and I are planning our own escape from NYC to...austin in the future! (small world)
I'm in the same boat as you girl --- this kind of style totally draws me in. every. time.
Ooooooooh that style is gorgeous!! I love down to earth types. More homey and comfy.
OMG, Courtney, this post is beautiful. I am completely on your wavelength today...and probably quite often!...as I just posted something about wanting to focus less on material things and more on simplicity. These photos are gorgeous...I can't wait to see what it looks like in the years to come!!
court-
i have had that image with the wood kitchen island saved in my favorites for ever! love the lack of drawer pulls.

My ultimate perfection? A home filled with lots and lots of mirrors to always be able to witness the perfection of ME! ;) (PLEASE know I'm just teasing!)
These pics are a very good start, Courtney! It's always funny to me because in my head I think COLOR, COLOR, COLOR! But I find myself, when thumbing through mags, to land on images like these. Soft, calm, restful. I'm looking at that last little outbuilding and thinking rustic dinner party with friends. Good food, drink, and conversation until the wee hours. And, really, could you imagine a nice spot to wake up with a hangover? ;)
Lovely post...relaxed just looking :)
I found you blog a few months ago and i enjoy your positive and upbeat posts. Keep it up, they are very inspiring.
I really love what you just said. Ah, the simple things in life. I feel completely the same... provided I have good linen and someone to share wine and laughs with.
<3 Courtney, in South Africa.
I love this scrubby imperfect look - exactly what I hope to achieve when I decorate. Fab collection of photos - had a look over at the Freeman's Sporting Club link - love it xx
Beautiful! Very comfy looking and the "not so perfect" look is fabulous!
lovely photos court! those barber shop chairs are amazing!
Wow - I love this. I reallllly want a lake house someday. Overlooking the water with all my vintage finds!
Perfection right now for me is just getting my apartment to a place where I don't constantly feel the need to be doing something (anything) to make it better. Hopefully by this fall I'll be there. Just in time for my ultimate indulgence:
Saturday afternoons, curled up on the couch with the cat watching college football and maybe tending a pot of soup on the stove. (sigh)
