Snack:
• Grace Bar. This was my first stop at 1AM on Friday night. I was craving a cocktail made with St-Germain, my friend a beer. It pleased us both and their bar bites definitely hit the spot after a dinner of airplane nuts and Pringles.
• Cafe Gitane. I worked in Nolita for most of my time in NYC and this little hipster hangout kept me well fed. They consistently serve fresh, interesting food that leaves you craving more.
• The Rusty Knot. After a a sweaty day of running the streets, I joined a friend and cooled off with a Dark 'N Stormy, Pretzel Dog, and Beer Bread. It was a carb fest that made me one happy girl!
• Little Giant. Holy goodness this place was delish. It's always hard for me not to revisit my old favorite restaurants, but I'm glad my friend Kelly has exciting new suggestions. We started off with a couple of apĆ©ritifs [seriously good Pimm's Cups] and ended with a divine Strawberry Shortcake. And no complaints about everything we consumed in between! One of the most adorable restaurants ever.
Shop:
• Rebecca Taylor. The summer sale had me hooked and I left with the most perfect cotton dress. It was a pleasure running into an old friend that still works there!
• Jill Stuart. Downstairs in her SoHo boutique, she stocks all vintage and I love Jill's girly sensibility. Bought the most incredible dress that I'm dying to pull out for my birthday. It makes me feel just like Carmen Miranda, but in a good way.
• Vespa SoHo. Such fun! And some of the nicest sales people ever.
• Opening Ceremony. Great shop for edgier pieces and their extensive collection of Gerard Tully was impressive.
• Madewell. The most perfect basics in the whole world...but I'd already spent my coin at Jill Stuart.
Snip:
• The cut turned out short, choppy and ideal for Houston's heat! Since I feel awkward about taking pics of myself, I promise to post some from my birthday activities over the weekend. But let's be honest, forget the hair...you're dying for serious Madge-scoop! Corvette leaves on Wednesday to prepare for the tour and will be in charge of Madonna's hair through December. He doesn't get to travel on a private plane with her, nor does he get much time off during his trip across America, Europe and South America. He's so modest and respectful of his upcoming gig that he never even mentioned her name aloud, but simply referred to the rockstar as "she" and "her." I loved it!
Sleep:
• 7 total hours total from both Friday and Saturday night.
Sanity:
• Would do it again in a New York minute.

next time can I go with?
sounds like a great time!! Can't wait to see the pics :)
what fast and furious fun trip!
LOVE it - thanks for the scoop! Your hair sounds fab - living the life girl!
Hot diggidy - do you know how many times I walked passed "Little Giant", not knowing its name, nor its culinary prowess, but still dying to go?
I'm glad to get the scoop, you have me browsing Rebecca Taylor's website, and I'm glad to hear that you had a blast!
Can't wait to see some pictures -- but I was wondering (as I have a feeling we have the same hair) if you can supply us with some product recommendation? The whole kit and caboodle please, as the half-curl,half-straight, all frizz + humidity-averse girls always appreciate some advice!
Erika: I wouldn't have it any other way!
Little Miss: You must eat there. Soon. I love that it's owned by two women and they ride bikes to local markets for their produce, cheese, etc. If you go into Rebecca Taylor, ask for China. She's so sweet!!
As for hair product...I'm sort of low key. When I lived in the city, I used only Bumble & Bumble [partly because I loved it so much, partly because my friend did PR for them and I would get truckload amounts for free]. When I moved to Houston, B&B started to dry out my hair here. I still use their Thickening Spray and sometimes their Styling Lotion and Surf Spray. I love Rusk's W8tless hairspray. It's not like normal hairspray and leaves my curls in tack, but my hair loose. I recently picked up some of BedHead for men's styling cream. I haven't decided if I'm hooked yet!
So glad you had a good trip despite the fact that it was so short and sweet. It sounds like you made the most of your time there. In my opinion, 36 hours in NYC is better than 36 hours anywhere else. It's my favorite city in the world!
your trip sounds amazing! i am with erika, i would love to travel with you to new york. can't wait to see your cut. have a happy birthday weekend!
Courtney: thanks for the suggestions! I have a slew of B&B products, but have only the Surf Spray of the ones your mentioned. Any help is always appreciated!
Sounds like your trip was a whirlwind but so worth it.
I love quick but fun trips like that!! ;) (And well justified, I might add!)
St. Germain is my new favorite summer liquer- mixed with prosecco, a splash of soda and a squeeze of lemon- YUM!
When is your b-day? Mine is next Wed- hear us Leo's roar... ;)
