The 5th Dimension

Urban Outfitters Inc. launched its fifth concept, a wholesale brand for its Anthropologie chain called Leifsdottir [a Scandinavian surname meaning "daughter of Leif"]. The line will ship to approximately 100 stores, including Nordstrom and Bergdorf Goodman, and retails between $150 and $400. Leifsdottir is designed to "reveal layers of complexity, with unique trims, vintage buttons, ruffles, embroidery and dressmaker tailoring" and will hang alongside designer brands such as Nanette Lepore and Marc by Marc Jacobs.

In person, the line is incredibly well made with whimsical details like contrast linings and ornate notions. Surprisingly, none of the pieces felt young or overly contrived even though most were swathed in ruffles and bows. I was most ecstatic to use my Anthropologie gift cards on Leifsdottir's Clandestine Trench, which kindly fed my addiction to constructed jackets. Between the double tiered shoulder flap and perfect, almost custom-like fit, I was instantly hooked!
