Cleanliness Is Next To Godliness

A while back I began a gradual shift from my old, harsh cleaners to more resposible [and prettier packaging!] brands like Mrs. Meyers and Method. Not only does my house sparkle afterwards, but it smells incredible. Even laundry has become an exciting chore thanks to my new favorite Geranium detergent.

Now if I only had these spiffy utilitarian goods, I could morph into a modern day, pre-ball Cinderella. Have you ever seen a toilet brush look so swanky?

Available through Labour and Wait and Baileys.

We use Mrs. Meyers at our place too. We have been pretty happy with the big switch so far, but still can't let go of clorox bleech for our whites... could you suggest any good bleech alternatives??

The Mrs. Meyer's stuff is so pretty. I know if I bought it I wouldn't want to use to because I wouldn't want to mess up the prettiness!

Sarah Danielle: I don't use bleach at all because it's quite harsh on my clothes, so I turned to Mrs. Cleany (AKA Mom) and here's her advice on bleach alternatives:

I use OxiClean, as a presoak for stained clothes. Works well, but works better if used right away, of course. I don't use chlorine bleach even on my whites, as it just destroys the fibers of the fabric. I also use Borax, however since I bought new LG machines, I checked on the internet to see if it was safe to use it as an additive to the detergent and fabric softener combo. They said you use 1/2 the detergent and the other 1/2 of Borax.

Not sure if this helps in the "going green" department, but anything less toxic has to be better! Happy laundering. xx

Oh those Brits - stop taunting us with all your fabulous everything! Do they ship worldwide?

And yes, those toilet scrubbers are almost good enough to ship overseas!

(And I love Method products, and will definitely be looking into Mrs. Meyers, merci!)

i actually am loving the aesthetic feel of that wire basket with clothes pins...such great appeal for a laundry room.

I love Mrs. Myers cleaners, and I stay with the brand because it was 'green' way before it became trendy. I hate to admit, tho, that for cleaning toilets, I'm hooked on the Clorox wand with disposable scrubbers. Toilet brushes are just not pleasant, no matter how attractive, alas.

Courtney I really enjoy reading your blog! Mrs. Meyers products are fantastic. I was a bleach-a-holic with white laundry, and recently switched to using Borax powder... I was suprised at how well it works and I haven't missed the bleach so far.

Alice: Thank you so much! And I'm definitely going to try the Borax and see if I can whiten up my handcloths.

thanks for the tip on borax!! we have all white linens and towels in all of our bedrooms and bathrooms, so it's hard to eliminate the bleech (esp. b/c I am OCD about them being BRIGHT white, lol) but this borax stuff sounds pretty legit, so thanks again!

Does the Mrs. Meyers work better than the Method? I try to be better and I buy Method but I don't think that it works all that well. I'm stumped trying to find a green cleaner.

I do think Mrs. Meyer's works a lot better. Plus, the cleaning wipes don't leave that funny smell on your hands like Method does. [seriously, my hands smell NOTHING like "grapefruit" after fooling with those wipes. I don't know what it is...]

I still like Method for my wood floors though.

Best. Toilet. Brush. EVER.

Someone hurry up and open a Labour and Wait stateside! The currency conversion makes me weak in the knees. Dang economy!

There is something about great looking green products that ALMOST inspire one to clean. That being said, we have been a "green cleaning family" for years. It's getting even easier, too with so many new great products! Love the swanky toilet brush....did I just say that??

Yay for cleanliness!!! And yay for Mrs Meyers! I really do love both if you can't tell:)

First, Love reading your blog...always fun ideas. Second, I have been using Mrs. Meyers for a long time and frequently need to mix the scents up to stave off bordem. Recently, my favorite scent is the Basil. It is incredible and I love the biogradable dryer sheets. The best product she makes is the all purpose cleaner (it works on everything...thus the name) so instead of countertop cleaner, shower cleaner etc...this works in kitchen and bath and lasts for a long time when diluted properly. Just wanted to share this tidbit as an avid Mrs. Meyers lover! Oh, and thank you for introducing me to the French Kicks...they are my new favorite band!
