The Dark Night

When I wrote about the Starlite Theater, a reader informed me of an operating drive-in off Hwy. 290 called The Showboat. Friday night we ate a quick dinner, loaded the car with pillows and left in a fury to see The Dark Knight. Only a 30 minute ride through the sunset and cow pastures, we arrived at our very first drive-in movie.

It was apparent we were rookies when all the veterans set up chairs in their truck beds to take advantage of the night breeze. Sitting inside our car armed with a tub of popcorn, candy and Root Beer, we were anxious to see the newest Batman flick. It was such fun watching the movie on a 40' x 80' screen under the open sky, and I can't wait to do it again on another dark night...especially come Fall!

what fun!!! the next step is having a dozen people in a van but only paying for the driver/passenger (because everyone else would be on the floor!)--something my girlfriends and I would do in high school days :)

Paloma,
My family and I have been going to the Showboat for a couple of years. There is always a breeze and we are never bothered by mosquitos. We have 3 kids 9 & under, it is great affordable entertainment for a family & a great date night for mom & dad. They started with 1 screen & added the 2nd this year or end of last year. We always have a great time. We were there Thursday night.

We used to hide two or three of us in the trunk and sneak in. The drive-in isn't there anymore....didn't make enough money...wonder why with everyone sneaking in??!!

Sounds like a fab night! I love drive-ins. We have one near us that is up and running. Too bad there were not more around like the "old days". I actually want to do a drive in party theme at our house this fall. Our driveway has a good incline and I think would be perfect for a fun night!

I drive past that place all the time when I go visit my friend in Spring. Someday I'll have to talk her into going to a movie with me... (She just had a baby, so I'm thinking, not any time soon.)

How is it you've never been to a Drive in? Did you grow up in a foreign country? Oh!You're just a baby aren't you?

Hi Anon: I grew up in Southern Louisiana, right here in the USA. While I didn't go to Drive-Ins, we did great things like fishing in Grand Isle, crabbing, taking road trips to tiny towns, and picnicking/riding bikes down the hills of the Governor's Mansion. I also love that my parents taught me the importance of supporting Mom & Pop businesses. We always ate at local, non chain restaurants and shopped in small stores. I wouldn't change my childhood memories for anything!

I'm also 27 years old. I love that the blogging community knows no age limits. I read blogs written from people between 15 - 60 and I'm equally inspired by them all! Thanks for stopping by and I hope you found something inspirational as well.
