Scoot Around

Well, I've never seen such cute scoots in all my life...

A sidecar AND a picnic basket! Perfection.

This Vespa seems fit for a King and sort of screams Elvis. I love it!

Adorable vintage Heinkel that was featured in the August issue of Teen Vogue. It's a German make that's quite rare in the US.

I spotted this prepster in the window of Antik and immediately whipped out my camera. I don't know which detail grabbed me first: the plaid tire cover, chrome airplane "hood" ornament, substantial helmet/bag hook, or the slew of headlights.

The most perfect shade of cheery yellow ever.

And these old commercials are hilarious! One mentions Vespa being British made, I wonder if they once had a factory there?

I'd love to have a Vespa someday! Can you imagine me riding my Vespa into town on I-10? I think I'll have to move closer in before I can start scootin'.

I told my husband that a blogger friend had a Vespa and rides it AFTER she took motorcylce safety lessons--and he thought about it and said "I suppose if you were interested and you were to ride it just around our town it might be okay" which is SO not like him (he's a safety freak)So, my question is--do you freak out a bit when you're on it or is it like riding a bicycle and you feel free as a breeze?

Benson!!! I am so very excited for the possibility that you could soon be a scooter owner :) I'm not gonna lie - I was scared to death of that thing prior to my motorcycle class. You feel so vulnerable without a "shield" around you, but the class taught me to be more aware and they force you to do things like speed up to 30 mph and then slam on the brakes or veer a hard left. So I've already done things I would have never practiced for fun, you know. The only thing I'm having trouble with now is balancing extra weight, i.e grocery bags or an extra passenger. But baby steps, right?!

Oh, the scooter envy, the scooter envy! I love that shot from Teen Vogue.

The motorcycle class sounds exciting - I can just imagine myself on a scooter, pretending I am in the Bourne Conspiracy Four, doing sharp turns down twisty streets. Awesome!

I love them all, but the white Elvis one calls my name in so many ways. You lucky girl, i would die to even get a glimpse of one of them in person.

You are too cool for school! (scared that that is just an Australian saying and I am going to look really gooby!) - My aunty and uncle rode motor cycles through India, Nepal and Bhutan! And I am petrified to drive a car?! - Friends of mine live in the South East of our state - known for cattle farming and vineyards and my very city friend married a beautiful "metrosexual" guy who has the most AWESOME watermelon coloured vespa for their holiday house - so jealous!!

Kimberlee: OK my dear - all I had to read was "watermelon colored vespa for their holiday house" and I immediately went into daydream mode. xx

It's really going to happen! The husband said he thinks I could handle it to and fro and my best girlfriend may even get one too so we can scoot together (and learn how to drive it/go to safety classes/etc..) I'll keep you informed on the quest-any tips for make/model?

Benson: This is so very exciting for you - and your friend!! I wish I had a scootin' partner. It totally depends on personal taste as to what kind you want. Do you already have a brand in mind? Both Vespa and Stellas are super cute, but Stellas are only two strokes. Depending on where you live, you may not be able to have a two stroke and may need a four, i.e. California. Also, how fast do you need it to go will depend on whether you need a 50cc, 150cc, or 250cc. I think a 250 would be a bit much for someone looking to just run around to and from, but the 50 and 150s would be perfect! Keep me posted and I can't wait to hear more.
