Child's Play

While I don't have kids just yet, they aren't required for collecting original copies of Miroslav Sasek's children's books. Sasek is a well-known Czech artist, illustrator and author whose books are packed with punchy colors, imaginative illustration and mid-century charm. My favorites come from his This Is series, 18 books that serve as the most whimsical travel guides around. A few from this collection have been reissued, but nothing beats the real thing. Oh, how I would love a library full of Sasek's works!

I absolutely LOVE these books! I always look through them when I visit Kuhl-Linscomb. I would love to start a collection for my phantom children.

These illustrations are so wonderfully fun. Even though we don't yet have kids, my husband and I already buy kids books- ones we feel are essential in a child's book collection (ok, and because we have lingering loves for them!) These books certainly fit that bill!

I have two little boys who LOVE these books. When I travel for work I try to find one at a local Barnes & Noble to bring back with me. We've collected one from San Francisco, Chicago and New York.

I love them as much as my boys - the illustrations are amazing!

I'm in love with these books...and I had no idea there was a Texas book! For this Texas girl living in California, I would love to have this book on my bookshelf!

Great post! Where do you look to find the originals? I have a few of them, but they're from Anthropologie and Amazon.com so clearly they're new. I've never even seen the Texas one!

I love these books. I have felt a revolt for all those plastic toys with millions of little pieces and have said I'm only giving my kids wooden toys and good old classic books. Now, I'm guessing my kids will want all the shiny stuff you can get at Kids R Us, but if I can keep with the good old classic books I'll take what I can get!
