Off Camera

Ever wonder how many people it takes to capture one Sartorialist shot? Today my friend spied Scott Schuman [in the camel jacket] setting up shop outside her apartment window. We're both in awe of the exposed off camera crew.

Wow, really? I always pictured a lone Sartorialist wandering the streets and capturing candid shots.

I had no idea it took so many people. I'm so naive, I actually thought it was one person who found these people!!! Thanks for the post, I'm learning something new everyday :)

This is fascinating! I always envisioned him as a one-man-show. It amazes me that I've never spotted him, come to think of it.

Wow. Like pretty much everyone else has said, I've always pictured him alone on the hunt for the perfect image! It is crazy to see behind the scenes!

I've wondered about this...and I'm not sure what this says about me, but I didn't think it was just one person. The photos always look like magazine shots.

Oh dear so many peeps for this- I didn't realize it either. I hope she wasn't camera shy and went downstairs with a tray of cookies.

For those that feel like I've ruined a good thing, I am so so sorry! I certainly didn't mean to be a spoiler to anyone's inspiration by any means. This was fascinating to me, and I thought you'd feel the same. I'm still just as moved by his photos, but I also feel like I'm a but more educated by the process as a whole. I truly apologize to anyone who felt as though I let the cat out of the bag.

I LOVE to know the behind the scenes details. I'm not sure what all those other people do/are doing? Totally agree with the others though..thought he was a one man band and went around and said "can I take your picture?"

wow! I totally thought it was just him taking candid shots as well. I think it's great- you didn't ruin a good thing, just exposed it :)

Aw Courtney you did nothing wrong! No worries darling - of course he has a crew, did people think he just happened to catch all of his subject in perfect light on accident? Some one has to help!

Actually, it's fascinating. And reassuring somehow. My bet is, this is not how he started.

that is an amazing ensemble of folks. i thought his photos were more spontaneous than this but given their flawless nature, i have to say that i am not surprised by this.

god, I'm so glad to see this. I check the site a few times a week, always loving what I see, as I sit here in work out clothes (wearing my do-rag)

thanks for sharing this!

Aw courtney = we are just teasing you. Life is too short to worry about how he tricks us with his seemingly candid photos that are actually orchestrated like a fine opera!!! too funny!!!

No way. Are you sure he wasn't taking photos for something (like a magazine) and not the blog on this day? When he does write about it, he always makes it sound like it was spontaneous too. Feels sorta misleading if this is what's really behind those photos.

Wait...wait...what?! I thought it was one guy and his camera!! Yeah...I feel a bit lied to.
