My family's Amaretto recipe has been passed down through generations and was always made around the holidays. I had a ball whipping up batch after batch of this almond-like goodness and taste testing along the way. You can enjoy the liqueur in a cocktail, over a dessert or all by itself.
To spruce up the bottles for Christmas gifts, I tied a garland clipping and miniature ornament to Bake It Pretty's "Drink Me" tags using my favorite striped string. Enjoy the recipe; it's sure to get you in the holiday spirit!

Boudreaux Family's Amaretto
3½ cups sugar
1 tbsp. instant coffee
1 fifth [about 25.6 ounces] of vodka
Dissolve sugar in 2 cups boiling water. Add instant coffee and stir until completely dissolved. Remove from fire and stir in remaining ingredients. Be sure to taste, but consider yourself warned when you're making this at 9AM.

WHERE did you get those LOVELY bottles? I have been hemming and hawing over what sort of holiday treats to make and give this year, and kept thinking toffee/cookies/sweets but know that everyone gets overloaded with holiday sweets...what a perfect, beautiful gift!
hey dr nut,
it's me, your friend dr nut. i just updated my blog and my dr nut happens to have made the cut too.

Just lovely. A breathtaking presentation.
those are adorable! love the dr. nut box.
LOVE this!
they look so festive all packaged up in that crate- and I am a huge fan of the Alice in Wonderland "drink me" tags. What a great find.
i am going to give this a whirl this weekend! i would love to know where you got your bottles! **I hope to see you next Wednesday at La Casa de Letras for our Christmas party!! -Lindley
Thanks for the kind comments! It was a lot of fun to do these...and hopefully a lot of fun for the recipients to drink :)
As for the bottles, you can find these at the Container Store or at most online bottling shops. Even a local beer bottling supply shop will have them, and most cities have a store like that. Good luck and send me pics if you make some yourself!
xxCHEERS!
Courtney- WOW girl you rock! I LOVE the presentation!!!! This is so sweet of you to share your recipe. I was mentioning this to my husband and I could see his wheels a turning! I think he wants me to make a batch. Thanks again...
Hugs

Nice job, Martha! Er, I mean, Miss Courtney! It looks FANTASTIC!!! And thank you for offering the recipe! Such a sweet little offering. It will be treasured and hopefully something I get to try out over the holidays! Mwah!
How cute! :)
Absolutely adorable and yummy looking! Would it be an option to use Angostura Bitters instead? hmmm.
Janice: I used Angostura myself because we had a huge, unopened bottle. I sent my Mom home with a sample of my Amaretto and she's going to make her's using Peychaud's...then do a taste test to see if it matters. I'll be sure to report back :)
such a cute idea court! love that dr nut container!
Darling packaging!
wow, i'll take a case! :)
Now I am on a mission to find a Dr. Nut box...love it!
Wow- The recipe sounds absolutely DELISH!
The bottles are so adorable!!!
hooray! got all the supplies (my Peychauds was only $2.99 at our local liquor store!) and will be brewing up some amaretto for friends and family. I feel like it's prohibition days and I'm secretly making "the good stuff" :)
Courtney, you are too cute...I love this idea!
This is adorable! I am a bakers twine convert. It's cheap and also comes on those huge cones. I've got red and blue and am tying it onto anything that'll hold still. Yipee, Christmas!
You're definitely the coolest girl on the block. Lucky a friend would be who receives this tasty stylin' gift.
So I'm a little confused by the amount of vodka you say to put in. You put 1/5th which typically means a 750 ml bottle, but then you put 25 ml out to the side - which is it? 25ml doesn't seem like enough but I made it using only 25 ml and it tastes good. Help!
this is a GREAT idea!
to Alisa Palmer said...
She actually said 25.6 ounces not ml.
hope that helps.
I've been lurking on your blog for a while, but after making this recipe, I had to delurk to thank you! So easy, and such a big hit with my friends.
Thanks for sharing!
Libby
I just got around to making this! It's 10am on a Saturday and I'm having a hard time not making myself a glass on the rocks. Soo so good.
