Summer Camp

J and I constantly wax lyrical about our childhood summers as we'd both travel throughout Louisiana hopping from one rickety wood camp to another. Any body of water or roadside bayou [read stream] South of I-10 was fair game—and bonus points if your fishing pole was in tow. I've just discovered these camp photos of my maternal grandparents and relatives during their hay days in Grand Isle, a town located on a barrier island at the mouth of Barataria Bay where it meets the Gulf of Mexico.

fishing at "the camp" is the best summer past time in louisiana. and a little bit of swimming in the dirty water;)

hahaha! You can tell those are so original just by the men's bathing suits. Wow. Did people really wear those? It really makes me wonder what my kids will be wearing...

I love how you honor your relatives on your blog. The stories always make me smile. I need to purchase a scanner so that I can dig up some old memories and do the same for my grandparents!

BTW...your family really seems like they know how to have fun...love that!

Super photos! My high school b-friend used to take me to their camp in Grand Isle! I ate my first crawfish and caught my first flounder there!
